  1. I also attended St. Joseph’s from 1st through 4th grade and from that point public schools in the city. Wonder if there are any pictures or information about St. Joseph around ’66 – ’69, there were two grades in one class. I’ll never forget Sister Mary Roberts and Ms. Romanowski (sp). I’m so please to see my ancestors listed in the entrepreneurs list and ’40 graduation class of Parker Gray. I look forward to continuously coming back to this site.       1. alot of us went there within the surrounding area (Madison, Columbus, Alfred, First Street), I think I was one of the very few who attended but wasn’t Catholic. Also, Russell Temple CME Church held a kindergarten in their basement which I, and again a lot of the surrounding children in the neighborhood attended. Mrs. Ethel Nelson and Mrs. Mary Burgess were the teachers and Mr. Bailey the music teacher. I’m sure my mom has pictures from the kindergarten days not sure of St. Joseph though. I am also interested in tracing my roots. When will you be conducting another lecture in the area?

      2. Thanks Gail! I will put both of these schools on my research to do list. All my lectures are posted on my blog under “Char’s lectures”. My next lecutres are at the Fairfax County Genealogical Society Conference in Fair Oaks. I will be lecturing sometime in June at the Alexandria Black History Museum.   2. It does my heart good to see some of the names of people I heard about as I was growing up in Alexandria. I attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School and St. Mary’s Academy but I heard about the teachers around town. Their names often came up in conversation or they were friends of the family. Many of the teachers are familiar to me. We had a lot of wonderful role models and it is good to see that they are being remembered. I am so happy whenever I see another entry on the website.
